The photographs are pretty dreary and do not reflect the kind of Christmas that we had which was very different but a lot of fun...We went to a Christmas Eve party...Brazilian style where a suckling pig ( complete with apple in the mouth was roastedon the barbeque... and we saw in Christmas day at midnight with a toast..
Then on Christmas Day we set off across the river ( accompanied by the one other VSO person wo lives in Bartica -Tess We were invited Christmas Dinner with a reamarkable black American woman Joyce who now lives in Guyana It was a great setting for Christmas Day. We met Tony her English yatching friend and John an American yatchsman and his two kids (his wife was recovering from a bout of typhoid).. A good time was had by all and we drank a very passable Argentinian red wine most of the day...the meal took a long time to prepare...Joyce is not used to having 12 for dinner ( the unknown to us the gas gave out ) but the food was finally cooked and served by early evening. The food was worth waiting for...turkey and all the trimmings and a good time was had by all....
Boxing Day and there we are at our neighbour Carlos's house drinking whiskey and enjoying the live Premier League football... Carlos came from St Lucia originally and a good guy to know...told us how to get cheap international calls and he can get us tickets for the cricket (West Indies versus England in March in Georgetown). Lucia and her friend Blanca from Mexico came to visit us ,
